For large-scale users of CCTV simply increasing the control room staff to boost the level of surveillance is not a viable option. This is where Video Analytics can play a vital role; Video Analytics (or Intelligent Video) is a technology which actively monitors CCTV channels and will create dynamic alerts if pre-defined activity takes place. This activity can be human, such as loitering or trespassing or it could be vehicle behaviour such as congestion or a traffic incident. The Video Analytics system will monitor the camera view with unerring accuracy and acts as a vital support tool for the control room staff.
Ipsotek develops solutions in the field of advanced behavioural analytics which is the ability for a system to monitor video images and identify behaviours and trends that ought to be brought to an operator’s attention. Increasingly the technology is finding important uses in generating useful information for business use or public safety.
The solutions typically fall into 2 distinct categories; alarm-based and statistics-based.
In an alarm-based environment the Ipsotek system will be continuously monitoring a CCTV image and will create an alarm if certain behaviours occur. This could be the behaviour of a person, a vehicle or indeed anything that moves. Once a normal pattern of movement is established, the Ipsotek system will identify abnormal movement and will trigger an alarm accordingly. Examples of alarm-based deployments are intrusion along secure perimeters, congestion on the highways or irregular pattern of events in a casino.
A statistics-based environment is one where a camera is gathering useful information to be analysed some time later. Examples of statistics-based deployments are people counting in large retail and entertainment venues, traffic and pedestrian data around a busy hub, or activity analysis in casinos.
